150th anniversary of Paul Claudel at Sablon Church – Introduction by the grandson of the poet

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Paul Claudel’s birth, a tribute will be paid next Saturday to the French poet and diplomat in Belgium. PEN club Belgium is associated with this tribute which will take place under the high patronage of H. Exc. Mrs. Claude-France Arnould, Ambassador of France in Belgium and of the French Academy, and will be introduced by François Claudel, grandson of the poet.

During this evening, a lecture by Professor Catherine Mayaux (specialist of the work of Claudel) will be offered, with texts by Claudel read by Frédéric Dussenne (actor, director) and the music of Fauré, Debussy, Ravel and Poulenc and a creation by Jean-Paul Dessy composed for the occasion, performed by Benoît Mernier (organ) and Clara lnglese (soprano).

 

A drink will be offered between the conference and the concert.

When: this Saturday, September 29 from 19h to 22h.

Location: Sablon church in Brussels where Claudel went daily during his tenure as ambassador of France in Belgium (1933-1936). Some pages of his collection A Poet Looks at the Cross are directly inspired by the church.
