9th TRANSPOESIE Festival celebrates Europe’s cultural diversity and languages

The 9th edition of the TRANSPOESIE FESTIVAL will take place from September 26 until October 17. The festival celebrates Europe’s cultural diversity and languages through contemporary poetry. Twenty-two countries and regions will be participating, with twenty poets attending the festival. The public shall enjoy four consecutive reading events where the poets present their work in their mother tongue with French, Dutch and English translations. Their poems will be displayed on Belgian public transportation. Four poetry readings are scheduled:

Thursday September 26th 7 pm – MUNTPUNT

On the European Day of Languages, the opening of TRANSPOESIE at MUNTPUNT will spotlight five young and talented voices: Luis Garde (Basque Country / Spain), Jan Škrob (the Czech Republic), Lív Maria Róadóttir Jæger (the Faroe Islands), Elmar Kuiper (Friesland / The Netherlands) and Edna Azulay (the Netherlands).

Thursday October 3rd – 7 pm – MAISON DU LIVRE

The famous booklovers spot in Saint Gilles is hosting the festival for the first time, offering a unique evening with reading in the original languages (and translations) by Yasmin Hafedh (Austria), Jan Kaus (Estonia), Paul Mathieu (Luxembourg), Krystyna Dąbrowska (Poland) and Dan Coman (Romania).

 

 

Thursday October 10th – 7 pm – BALASSI INSTITUTE

The Hungarian Cultural Institute is welcoming Gábor Zsille (Hungary), Jorge Vilhena Mesquita (Portugal), Jure Jakob (Slovenia) and Raquel Lanseros (Spain).  For more info click here

Thursday October 17th – 7 pm – CERCLE DES VOYAGEURS

The final event of TRANSPOESIE to be held for the first time at Le Cercle des Voyageurs, in collaboration with MondoCultures, will make you discover the poetry of the North: Haukur Ingvarsson (Iceland), Máire Zeph (Northern Ireland), Roseanne Watt (Scotland), Jonas Rasmussen (Sweden) and Ifor Ap Glyn (Wales).
