James Gray is an American filmmaker with a remarkable filmography. Though contemporary in his directorial choices, he still perpetuates a cinema tradition that draws on actors who find his roles to be as rich dramatically as they are unique – including Joaquin Phoenix in The Immigrant, an undervalued work that Olivier Lecomte aims to restore to its deserved place.
