The Goethe-Institut and the British Council are pleased to welcome you at a panel discussion on the subject of “Culture in an age of uncertainty,” with Johannes Ebert (Goethe-Institut) and Sir Ciarán Devane (British Council), and Kateryna Botanova (CULTURESCAPES).

In the last few years we have observed an increase in instability globally and a rise in the support for populist and nationalist movements within Europe and outside. What long-term contribution can cultural relations provide in these increasingly challenging environments, both amongst our own societies but also elsewhere? How can they best support sustainable change? How do they contribute to strengthening civil societies? These are questions the Goethe-Institut and the British Council have been addressing in recent years and will continue to do so.

This event will present the findings of new research commissioned by the Goethe-Institut and the British Council, looking at the value of cultural relations in societies in transition to stimulate a broader discussion with policy makers and practitioners in cultural relations and other stakeholders in the culture, education, development, security and foreign policy communities.
