Get Up Stand up, the new MIMA exhibition explores the graphical universe of posters created by protest movements from 1968 to 1973.
Six years of intense political and social agitation in France, the US, and throughout the world, driven by an aspiration for more freedom, equality, dignity and justice. Provocative slogans are turned to images and disseminated by the thousands thanks to a new and rapid technique: silkscreen printing.
Based on the exceptional collection of 1968 posters compiled by Michaël Lellouche, curator of the exhibition, Get Up Stand Up features a selection of a few hundred posters produced between 1968 and 1973 from Paris to Prague, Athens to Berkeley via England and Palestine. The thematic show attests to the similarities between silkscreen studios and bears witness to their complicity beyond borders.
