From June 13 to 15, visitors can enjoy complimentary access to two newly inaugurated galleries at the Art & History Museum in Brussels, celebrating Belgium’s rich heritage in 19th-century decorative arts, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco. In view of the opening to the wider public, Their Majesties the King and Queen visited the new spaces on 10 June.

A Long-Awaited Revival of Hidden Treasures

The new spaces mark a major milestone in the museum’s evolution, presenting long-unseen masterpieces in a fresh, immersive setting designed to highlight their artistic and historical significance.

The Art Nouveau and Art Deco gallery (715 m²) is a visual feast, immersing visitors in the dynamic world of Belgian modern decorative arts. Born in Brussels in 1893, Art Nouveau is showcased through emblematic works by Victor Horta, Henry van de Velde, Paul Hankar, and others. A true highlight is the fully restored winter garden from the Maison Cousin by Horta — an architectural gem unveiled to the public for the first time.

This vibrant narrative continues with an exploration of Belgian Art Deco, revealing its stylistic diversity and modernist elegance.

In parallel, the 19th-Century Decorative Arts gallery (500 m²) offers a rich journey through major 19th-century styles such as Empire, Neo-Gothic, and Japonism. This new space paints a detailed portrait of bourgeois life in the 1800s, featuring exquisite furniture, everyday objects, and rare masterpieces. Several highlights have been generously loaned by the King Baudouin Foundation.

A Valentine’s Day and Vintage event 

Organised every year around Valentine’s Day, the Love Bugs Parade is much more than a classic car ride. It embodies the warm and festive spirit of those who love the famous ‘Cox’. The event brings together some 250 vehicles, from historic Beetles to modern Beetles, in a friendly, retro atmosphere. For this special edition, participants are invited to immerse themselves in the year 1965 by decorating their cars or dressing up in period costumes. Two dedicated areas on the Esplanade will showcase the creative efforts of participants and Beetles dating precisely from 1965. 

The programme

Enthusiasts will gather at 10am in front of the Autoworld museum, where registered owners will receive a rally nameplate, a roadbook and access to the museum and its temporary exhibition. Visitors can admire the vehicles on display, chat with the owners and enjoy the festive atmosphere. At 2pm sharp, the car parade will set off from the Esplanade to a joyous chorus of car horns. The route, which lasts approximately 1.5 hours, will take participants along some charming Brabant roads, offering a unique spectacle in motion for spectators and a memorable ride for drivers. Back at the Cinquantenaire around 3.30pm, participants meet up for a convivial snack offered by the organisers, an opportunity to swap anecdotes and extend the party. 

A party open to all 

The event is free and open to the public. Come and enjoy the atmosphere and admire these legendary vehicles. During the parade, be sure to visit Autoworld, a must-see museum for car enthusiasts. With its 250 historic vehicles and its temporary exhibition, it promises to delight young and old alike.

The 4th annual HUNGAstRY Festival kicked off this Saturday, June 29th, on one of Brussels’ most glorious summer days yet.

Thousands of attendees took the opportunity to drink delicious Hungarian wine, eat exquisite Hungarian food, listen to some fantastic original Hungarian music, and choose from a diverse array of Hungarian clothes, jewelries, and other goods – all while basking in the Belgian capital’s wonderfully warm summer sunshine.

About 1,000 people attended a major open-air yoga session this Sunday between 10.30 am and 12.00 pm at the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels.

Running for the sixth consecutive year, Brussels Yoga Day aims to offer those with no previous experience of yoga a taste of what the practice involves, and also seeks to motivate as many people as possible to live more positively.

Many people arrived at the Parc du Cinquantenaire on Sunday morning with a yoga mat under their arms to experience a special session of relaxation and meditation, free of charge and in the open air. The participants, who had to register in advance, were offered a t-shirt and fruit juice before taking their seats in a large half circle facing the arches of the Cinquantenaire.

A yoga teacher then gave the instructions from a stage set up in front of the participants, with soft, relaxing music playing in the background. The participants were then introduced to a few yoga postures and meditation techniques – postures and techniques which they can now reproduce themselves to manage daily stress.
