You will have the chance to swim in the pond of Pede, Anderlecht during this weekend.

The Pond will be open to swimming on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 July for the Expedition Swim activity.

The pond of the Pede is located in the municipality of Anderlecht – in the part outside the Ring 0 – Neerpede. Etang de la Pede is part of a series of water bodies located in the Neerpedebeek valley.

Nearly 2000 people have already registered to take part in the Expedition Swim. And you may register through this link.

About the pond

In the early 1960s, a major project planned the urbanization of the Neerpede Valley. Despite strong local opposition, the project was still carried out in part in conjunction with the construction of the ring road and the Erasmus hospital. In the 1980s, the land in question was bought by the public authorities in order to create sports areas, parks and a storm water basin. The Neerpede basin was developed in 1980 as a storm water basin for the floods of the Neerpedebeek. It has a capacity of 50,000m³.

Just a few weeks ago, we provided you with a list of several swimming pools in Brussels for you to get through the hot summer days.

Today, we present something a little different, a natural swimming pool.

The Renipont beach is a natural swimming pool located in Walloon Brabant in the town of Lasne. It is one of the 21 open-air public bathing sites in Wallonia during the summer period.

The quality of the water is monitored weekly by the Walloon Administration.

Brussels Airport is ready to welcome millions of travellers in search of sun and fun as of this Friday. At Brussels Airport, we love to pamper our passengers, both big and small, from the moment they set foot into the terminal. Concerts, animation, games and mascots: there’s something for everyone.

Over 94,000 passengers, 50,000 of them outbound, are expected at Brussels Airport this Friday. This is the first peak travel day of the year, marking the start of the summer holidays, when over 5 million flyers will pass through our doors. 2.7 million travellers will pass through Brussels Airport in July alone, with no fewer than six days with over 90,000 passengers. The 19th, 26th and 29th of July will be the busiest days of the month. Naturally, Brussels Airport and its partners are well prepared to handle the summer rush.

This summer, European holiday destinations will again be topping the polls. For TUI fly and Brussels Airlines customers, Spain and the Canary Islands are more popular than ever, followed by Greece. Other popular destinations for TUI fly passengers are Tunisia, and Egypt, which has seen the biggest increase in popularity compared to summer 2018, along with Turkey, which is a favourite with families wanting to take advantage of all-inclusive deals. For Brussels Airlines, Porto, Lisbon, Barcelona and Nice are also doing very well.

Entertainment galore

For Brussels Airport it is important that for all these holidaymakers their holiday should start as soon as they enter the terminal. True to its traditions, Brussels Airport will be welcoming these millions of passengers in style. This summer’s theme is Festival Vibes. Since Belgium hosts numerous music festivals over the two summer months, the terminal will be all-singing and all-dancing. Alongside the theme decorations, we provide animation and games for the children in Connector and the piers. Every Thursday in the late afternoon, Toby Jacobs will be treating our passengers to a piano concert. For those in search of a different vibe, DJs will be playing in the Topaz zone between Connector and Pier A on the 22nd, 23rd, 29th and 30th of July. Finally, a Chill Zone will be open again this summer in hall 2 where festival-goers can relax and unwind.

The kids will be especially spoilt with dedicated animation. Our ‘Family Lane’, decorated in Smurfs colours this summer, will once again be open to help families with small children get smoothly through security screening. Mascots will be around for photo opportunities on some days. On the entertainment side, kids can take part in a treasure hunt from early July.

A major new addition for kids this summer is Kids Corner, open 24/7, which can be found on Pier A, next to Starbucks. Designed for young kids (aged from 0–6) and their parents, this quiet area can be used free of charge to nurse and change babies in a comfortable setting, or even heat up baby food. A second area will offer games and games consoles.

And to make sure passengers enjoy the best possible vacation as of day one, Brussels Airport has some advice:

Advice for a hassle-free departure:

• Download the Brussels Airport app on your smart phone. It’s free, and provides practical information on the airport’s flights, restaurants, and stores, as well as parking.

• Leave for the airport on time

• Decide where to park or be dropped off in advance: the drop-off, P1-P2-P3. Please note that due to works, access to P2 and P3 has been modified.

• Reserve your parking spot in advance on our website

• To save time, check in on-line

• Prepare your hand baggage for security when you arrive at the airport

During this kind of heat, getting in the water is a real pleasure. So before you put on your bathing suit and cap, immerse yourself in this article to discover the Belgian capital’s many swimming pools.

The oldest swimming institution is the Baths of Brussels in the Marolles. It is open from Monday to Thursday from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm, on Friday from 7:30 am to 8 pm, and on Saturday from 7:30 am to 5 pm.

In the centre of the Region, there is also the Swordfish swimming pool in Etterbeek which opens from Monday to Friday at 7am for subscribers and 8am for others. It closes at 7:30 pm except on Friday, when it closes at 8 pm. Swordfish also has slides and games for children.

In Ixelles, near Flagey, there is a swimming pool which is open on Mondays from 8am to 9pm and from Tuesday to Sunday from 8am to 6pm.

In Saint-Gilles, the magnificent Victor Boin welcomes swimmers on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8am to 7pm, on Wednesday from 2pm to 7pm, on Saturday from 9am to 12pm and from 1pm to 6pm, and on Sunday from 8.30am to 2pm.

To the north

Laeken also has a swimming pool. With its games for children, it is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm, Wednesdays from 7:30 am to 8 pm, Thursdays from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, and Saturdays from 7:30 am to 7 pm. It is closed on Sundays.

The swimming pool in Neder-over-Heembeek is open on Mondays from 7:30 am to 9 pm, from Tuesday to Saturday from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm, and on Sundays from 7:30 am to 7 pm.

Still in the north, we find the Triton d’Evere swimming pool. Swimmers can go there from 8am and until 7pm most days except Thursday, when it stays open until 9pm. On weekends, it closes at 6:00 pm. This swimming pool also has a lawn where you can laze about in the sun.

To the south

For the inhabitants of the south, they have the choice between two establishments. Calypso in Watermael-Boitsfort is normally open from 7am to 7pm on weekdays and until 5:50pm on weekends, but during July and August, it is open every day from 8am to 8pm. It also has a playground for children and a solarium. The second is the Longchamps d’Uccle swimming pool which is open from 7:30 am to 7 pm on weekdays (except on Wednesdays and Fridays when it remains open until 9 pm). On Saturdays, it is open between 7:30 am and 8 pm and on Sundays from 7:30 am to 2 pm.

To the east

In the east, in Woluwe-St-Lambert, Poseidon is the established swimming institution. It is open from Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm and on weekends from 7:30 am to 7 pm. It has several pools, one of which is for children, and a solarium. In Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, there is the Sportcity swimming complex. Slides, a 50m pool, paddling pool and solarium are accessible from 8am to 6.30pm from Monday to Thursday and until 7.50pm on Friday. On weekends, it is open from 8am to 6.55pm.

To the west
