A World War II shell was safely dismantled at Brussels Airport
A shell dating from the Second World War was safely dismantled overnight. DOVO (the Belgian explosive ordnance disposal unit), has disabled the shell without difficulties. Brussels Airport would like to thank DOVO, and all services involved as well as all partners at the airport for their collaboration.
During works on apron 3 a World War II shell was found. The location where the bomb was found was at a safe distance from the buildings and passenger operations.
All works on the apron were stopped and, following the instruction of DOVO, a preventive safety perimeter of 100 meter around the shell was set. After inspection of the shell, DOVO confirmed that there was no danger to passengers, airport staff or operations.
As there was no immediate danger, DOVO decided to disable the shell during the night of Friday to Saturday. DOVO was able to dismantle the shell without having to detonate it. Brussels Airport wishes to thank DOVO and all services and partners involved for the good collaboration.
