Fête de la Musique 2018: bigger and better than ever
This midsummer music festival is coming to Brussels. The festival was originally a French idea just for their own country, but the idea and reputation preceded the festival and quickly spread worldwide. Now, The big stars appear most years for a chance to perform in the Jubilee Park in Brussels. But there are lots of other events in different locations throughout the city too! Including a foodie heaven At Parc du Cinquantenaire. For everything else, here’s a look:
Kickoff with a fanfare in the Marolles
The kickoff of this 2018 edition starts tomorrow in the Marolles district, around the Place du Jeu de Balle. From 10 am, a musical “fanfaresque” will parade the city, stopping in homes, nurseries and school until 4.30 pm.
Russian concert at the Palace of Fine Arts
Thursday evening at 8 pm, the classical Russian repertoire is in the spotlight at the Palais des Beaux-Arts with works by Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Prokofiev, all performed by the Belgian National Orchestra, joined by cellist Victor Julien-Laferrière, laureate of the Queen Elisabeth 2017.
All genres … everywhere
All or almost all musical genres will be present during the four days of the festival with performances going throughout the city – such as the Zinnema in Anderlecht, the BRASS in Forest, the Parvis Sainte-Alix in Woluwe-Saint- Pierre, the place Dr. Schweitzer in Berchem Sainte-Agathe, the Montagne de Saint-Job in Uccle or the parking of the Place de la Tulipe in Ixelles.

Disk Hunting – a lil something inbetween acts
Several hundred CDs, vinyls, t-shirts and other concert tickets and drink tickets will be hidden on Sunday, June 24 in the Parc du Cinquantenaire and in its direct surroundings. Everyone, young and old, who fancies this treasure hunt is invited to go looking for them with a specifically tailored app for this event, Neareo.
Search bushes, branches, behind concrete or under trees to find the lastest album of Roméo Elvis, of Puggy or Manu Hermia, a CD of classical music or Adamo, a vinyl of Glass Museum or Pale Gray; the latest compilation of Pure, a book-disc Movers, a T-shirt of the Feast of Music or tickets “drink” to use in the bars of the Festival.
Do not forget to install a QR code reader for your convenience. The hunt begins at 14H and goes until everything is found!
So come one, come all, and enjoy what is shaping to be one of the best musical events of Brussels this summer.
