What to expect at Ommegang 2018?

On 4 and 6 July, the Grand-Place will host a historical parade entrenched in Brussels’ folklore. More than 1.400 actors from historical groups will parade around in period attire and will accompany horses, a puppet theatre and giants flags from Brussel’s history to honour the coming of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles the Fifth to Brussels in 1549.

The event will have a parade through the city that begins in Sablon and culminates at the Grand-Place, but will also feature plenty of activities inbetween:

In the Brussels Park starting at 12:00 there will be a free medieval village with tournaments on 4, 5, 6 and 7 July and going until 21:00 each night.

Running on the same schedule will be a medieval market behind the Stock Exchange, where you can buy classic treats or contemporary crafts.

And of course, when the parade reaches the Grand-Place, you can expect to be enthralled by fireworks, music and further spectacles to bring you back into the Renaissance era.
