While the 2018 World Cup made Belgium a very popular country worldwide as a result of its football prowess. But Belgium is not only about football, and the country will surely offer tourists and residents both positive and unexpected surprises.
There is no way to deny the fact that the Bokrijk cycling path is among the many wonders that marks Belgium with a special recognition. Although the path is only 212 meters long, cyclists enjoy the opportunity for their eyes to be at the same level as the water level. Have you ever dreamed about walking on water? Well, when riding on the Bokrijk bike path, you may have a similar sort of feeling. “Walking on water may elude most of us, but this bike trail in northern Belgium offers an experience that’s almost as divine,” Time Magazine advises.
This project, which was set up in 2016, actually aimed to make the cycle network more attractive in the province of Limburg. And the plan has been very successful so far. Indeed, more than 500,000 cyclists have popped down to this province over the last 30 months.
This is the first time the famous American magazine has published a list of the 100 greatest destinations throughout the world. Three categories have been highlighted: places to visit, to stay, and to eat&drink. Although many criteria have been taken into account, some key factors have been decisive: quality, originality, innovation, sustainability and influence.
The Bokrijk cycle path is the only Belgian place that made the list. Should you look for other extraordinary places, Time Magazine has also mentioned the Tivoli Gardens (Denmark), the Seoullo 7017 Skygarden (South Korea) or the Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).
