About Snug Harbor

Literature in intimacy at the Muntpunt Grand Café. Two authors read from their latest work in English, because diverse Brussels needs a shared language.

The original Snug Harbor is a legendary café in New Orleans where people come together to enjoy the best new jazz. They share a passion in a cozy and intimate setting.

Starting November 2018, the Muntpunt Grand Café becomes your very own Brussels Snug Harbor. We invite you to share our passion: literature. During intimate evenings of current literature in English, two authors read from their latest work and tell you about the books that inspired it. A place of encounter and enjoyment for anyone with a heart for the written word.

Snug Harbor is created by Sofie Verraest and hosted by the Muntpunt library, the Muntpunt Grand Café, Mont Saint Eugene, the Brussels Writers’ Circle and Waterstones.

It presents established and emerging authors, local and traveling through. It happens on Thursday evenings, from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm and on into the night, as often as we need that shared dose of words to keep going.

Your Snug in Brussels

Brussels is a place of arrival. People pour in from everywhere, with all kinds of stories, in all possible languages. Brussels does not speak French or Dutch only. It often resorts to English as the language of the many. Brussels is that surreal place where no one belongs, which means everyone belongs. Wherever you’re from, whatever your mother tongue, whether you’re here for a decade or a day – come on in. Come once, come twice, come whenever you’re not at sea. The harbor has no closing time.

Only during the readings do the doors close for a moment. Because there is something magical about sharing stories in intimacy. Authors and readers meet. You get to know people through literature, and literature through people.

Don’t forget to order your drink – you now have all the good things in life.
