Renaud Garcia-Fons has followed his own path, totally original, on the borders where jazz, world music and classical music intersect, and it is this that has taken him so far. This monster of the double bass really no longer needs any introduction, for he forces us to dismiss all the clichés about this instrument, to which he has added a fifth string – one example among many that bears witness to his creativity and to his intention to go beyond the limitations of his instrument.

We adored his solo concert last summer in the framework of the Hide & Seek Festival among the dinosaurs of the Museum of Natural Sciences. This time we’re inviting him back with his trio to discover his latest album “La vie devant soi”. It was clear that some day or other the tireless traveller Renaud Garcia-Fons would have to pass through his native city, Paris, the cosmopolitan capital. It is to this city, at the crossroads where artistes of every nationality meet one another, that the Franco-Spanish bassist dedicates his new album “La vie devant soi”, which is actually the title of the book by Ajar-Gary that tells of “this extraordinary bond between a little orphaned Arab boy and a Jewish Mama”.

For this project, Renaud Garcia-Fons has teamed up with David Venitucci (accordion) and Stephan Caracci (vibraphone and percussion), two accomplices in innovation, with, as the guiding principle, the idea, fundamental for Renaud, of “creating a kind of chamber music, playing together, seeking out the nuances, the textures of sounds, starting out from the acoustics”. It’s a journey between groove and poetry, cheekiness and nostalgia … an ode to everything that’s human, set in a Parisian atmosphere.
