About the pond
In the early 1960s, a major project planned the urbanization of the Neerpede Valley. Despite strong local opposition, the project was still carried out in part in conjunction with the construction of the ring road and the Erasmus hospital. In the 1980s, the land in question was bought by the public authorities in order to create sports areas, parks and a storm water basin. The Neerpede basin was developed in 1980 as a storm water basin for the floods of the Neerpedebeek. It has a capacity of 50,000m³.
