In the next few days, Brussels will be shining brightly with more than 30 shows, lanterns and other brightly lit installations in a series of festivals that will be erupting around the capital. From “Bright Brussels, Festival of Light” to “Light the Heart of Europe”, not forgetting “Citizen Lights”, it will be arrayed in its best to bewitch its residents and visitors of all ages. From 22 till 28 February 2048, the Brussels-Capital Region will be dazzling visitors with various festivals of lights organised at the end of this month. Between video mappings, lantern processions, futuristic light installations and giant Chinese lanterns, the capital will be showing itself off to its best advantage.
Bright Brussels, Festival of Light will offer visitors and residents a unique opportunity to see the authentic districts of the capital in a very different light. In particular, they will be able to explore hidden treasures like the Béguinage district and the Pacheco Institute. 2018 marks the year of European Union-China tourism. For this occasion, the City of Brussels, in cooperation with the European Commission and the Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the EU, will be hosting a one-week event: a festival of lanterns.
The installation is a display of giant Chinese lanterns as a celebrating the craft of lanterns, an integral part of Chinese cultural heritage, in the heart of Brussels. The lanterns will portray symbols of both Chinese and Belgian culture, including for instance the Atomium. The lanterns are displayed on and around the Grand-Place.
