PEN-Vlaanderen, De Bezige Bij publishing house, De Zondvloed and MO* magazine invite you to a book discussion of I will never see the world again: notes from prison, by Ahmet Altan.
The program for the event is as follows:
1. Vice-chairman of PEN Flanders Sigrid Bousset will welcome the guests.
2. Journalist Tine Danckaerts from MO* magazine and writer Rachida Lamrabet will talk about press freedom in Turkey.
3. Author Peter Theunynck will read some excerpts from Mr Altan’s book.
4. Finally, we will all raise a glass of wine together in solidarity and friendship.
In I will never see the world again, Ahmet Altan describes vividly the political situation in Turkey and his life in prison. In doing so, he transcends his own personal tragedy and writes movingly about universal themes such as freedom and the passage of time, which end up being construed in a very different light when you know that you are going to be locked up forever.
