On June 22nd and 23rd, the Anderlecht Popular University, in co-production with Ancienne Belgique, is organizing its third edition, the Popular Festival of BXL.
The goal is simple: stop the momentum of “Brussels bashing” and offer a festival 100% popular, 100% participative and eco-responsible. It is also an opportunity to propose a meeting place, decompartmentalization of communities in a public space.
The Universiteit Populaire d’Anderlecht, in Kuregem, has worked together with AB for the third edition of the Festival Populaire de BXL. The opening night will be looked after by Orchestre Populaire de BXL. A transient concert, with the colours of the city and sixty or so amateur and professional artists, including Big Ben, Hussein Rassim, David Méndez Yépez … and many more.
The previous edition received about 3000 festivalgoers, fifty productions and about 80 encounters between participants. This year, almost 300 people from the far reaches of Belgium have worked on the artistic productions. An opportunity to celebrate the diverse neighbourhoods of Brussels, such as Kuregem or the canal area, and to symbolically reclaim the public space. With a scenography designed by citizens and professionals, and made with recovered objects during participative workshops at the various locations, the audience will enter into an “absurd” world.
