Jazz talent from Luik in quartet for first time!
The very first jazz album was released 100 years ago: The Original Dixieland Jass Band with ‘Livery Stable Blues’. That’s why AB will be paying extra attention to jazz for a year. From contemporary classics to musical troublemakers who are inspired by jazz, to the latest incredibly headstrong jazz generation from local soil.
Jazz talent flows abundantly to the south of the language border too: it is not without reason that Igor Gehenotfrom Luik gets named in the same breath as Jef Neve. An excellent jazz pianist, who has already released two albums in trio – ‘Road Story’ and ‘Motion’ – and always received high praise. A choice selection:
“In the overcrowded field of jazz trios, it is rare to hear one so fresh and innovative. This new pianist will make many waves in the future.” (Jazz Journal Magazine UK)
“This album is a masterpiece” (Jazzhot)
“Son toucher, son articulation, son sens harmonique, ses idées et son parfait sens du timing, sont des dons d’une magnitude qui arrivent seulement une fois par génération.” (JazzWise)
Now the 27-year-old young man is back with a new album: ‘Delta’. Not in trio this time, but with an entirely new international quartet: French trumpet player Alex Tassel (our southern neighbours’ golden figurehead), complemented by young Norwegian contra-bass player Viktory Nyberg and drummer Jerome Klein from Luxembourg.
