Artist talk at Huis 23 with Madeleine Peyroux at 18 h!
La Madeleine! She recorded her latest Secular Hymns with a modest cast in a church. The CD also sounds divine, with Peyroux’s rapture-inducing covers of Tom Waits, Allen Toussaint, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Eric Clapton, Townes Van Zandt, Patti Smith, Lee Dorsey… It’s out here via Impulse/Universal.
Allow the latter, plus her typically tender and well-placed timbre and phrasing, to also make clear why MADELEINE PEYROUX very defintitely belongs in the 2017 Jazz100 series.
