Japan’s Midori Hirano is a classically trained pianist who has been living and working in Berlin since 2008. Aside from the 3 albums that she has already released under her own name, she also composes music for film, video-installations and dance performances.
Her most recent album arrived in the summer of 2016 on the Sonic Pieces label. It is an album full of wonderful, layered compositions in which a beautiful balance is found between electronica, acoustic instruments and field-recordings.
Benoît Pioulard is the alter-ego of American songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, writer and photographer Thomas Meluch. He brought out his many releases himself or on renowned labels like Kranky , Type and Morr Music.
In his compositions, he effortless switches from wonderful, acoustic-guitar accompanied electro-acoustic folk through to static noise driven ambient. Pioulard’s work is characterized by the dark, melancholy undertone that he always manages to conjure up.
