Impressive rapper/producer with an impeccable live reputation!
Amir Mohamed el Khalifa – or Oddisee – is one of the most impressive rappers/producers of his generation. American with Sudanese roots, he was born and raised in Washington DC and grew up amongst the sounds of New York’s hip-hop – East Coast all the way!
‘People hear what they see’ – his first greatly successful album (2012, Mello Music) – was the forerunner of an already stunning career: a series of top albums (‘The Good Fight’! ‘The Beauty In All’!), a nice collection of mixtapes, and a few more-than-passing collaborations with the likes of Flying Lotus, De La Soul and Hudson Mohawke.
In 2016 he even released two mixtapes, on ‘Alwasta’ and ‘The Odd Tape’ Amir Mohamed wrestles with American preconceptions about muslims. He shouts it out amongst funky grooves, fluent raps and obscure soul-samples with a wonderfully rich flow – according to Pitchfork, Oddisee’s music deals with “golden-era hiphop sound”. He displayed his impeccable live reputation just last summer at Cactus Festival, now he’s coming to prove himself in AB – not to be missed!
Olivier St. Louis
Olivier St. Louis (fka Olivier Daysoul) is a world famous session musician who can be found in the address books of the likes of Hudson Mohawke, C2C and Onra. Aside from his work as guitarist/vocalist with Good Compny (the band encompassing Oddisee), he also possesses a brilliant arsenal of solo work. This excellent soul/funk hints at James Brown every now and then – including high gospel vocals and guitar solos – and can get even the stiffest of folks dancing. Get funky!
