From the 17th until the 27th of October, 2018, the Goethe Institute in Brussels and Beursschouwburg will organize the multidisciplinary festival Tashweesh. For ten days, the festival will seek to give voice to the many feminist positions of the Near East, North Africa and Europe. In the program: performances, debates, reading groups, film screenings, concerts and hedonist evenings.
Tashweesh is an Arabic word, an onomatopoeia, referring to the sizzling on the phone or on the radio, the din of a crowd. In this din of divergent opinions, protests and noisy movements, the Tashweesh festival calls for calmness, and during ten days transforms Beursschouwburg into a lab, where different positions can meet and challenge each other.
Many questions will be at the center of the festival to encourage reflection and exchange of opinions. Through art and debate, the festival aims to change what is commonly accepted to be “the norm”.
With the participation, among others, of intellectuals Nikita Dhawan, Sonia Eismann, Mounir Samuel and artists Antonia Baehr, Boiband, Sorour Darabi, Mira Hamdi, Danya Hammoud, Monira Al Qadiri, Nadah El Shazly, Maryam Tafakory and Margo van de Linde.
