<p>This Thursday 29 March, at the visit.brussels Awards Ceremony &amp; Networking Night, prizes were awarded to nine of Brussels&rsquo; cultural and tourism initiatives that stood out in 2017. Once the public had cast their votes, it was up to a jury of tourism experts to select the projects that have helped to boost Brussels&rsquo; reputation in 2017 in their various domains.</p>
<p>Brussels is full of people and institutions who work hard on a daily basis and launch bold initiatives to make the European capital more appealing worldwide. The 2018 visit.brussels Awards were bestowed on the projects that have done the most to put Brussels on the map over the past year and to encourage their efforts.</p>
<p>The event took place at the ADAM Museum, which is dedicated to 20th century art and design. After the audience had narrowed down 68 projects to just three finalists in each category, a jury of professionals from the Brussels tourism sector announced the winners in each of the 9 visit.brussels Awards categories.</p>
<p><strong>Here are the nine winners of the 2018 visit.brussels Awards:</strong></p>

<p class="column"><em>Starting today and ending on 4 March 2018, the public can vote for the <a href="https://visit.brussels/en/sites/awards/">visit.brussels Awards</a>. Everyone is now invited to take part in selecting the best three tourist initiatives in Brussels in each category for 2017 from among 63 nominees.</em></p>
<p class="column">Once the three finalists in each category have been announced, a jury of professionals from the Brussels tourist scene will select the winners of the 2018 awards. To help them make this sometimes difficult choice, the jury will pay special attention to the impact made by the candidates on tourism in Brussels, their international influence, originality, sustainability and accessibility for people with reduced mobility.</p>
<p class="column">The winners will be announced and receive their awards at the visit.brussels Awards &amp; Networking Night <strong>on 29 March 2018.</strong></p>
<div class="column">These are the 8 categories that will be put up to the public vote:</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>EVENING EXPERIENCE 2017</strong>: Concept that contributes to the richness of evenings in Brussels.</li>
<li><strong>MOST NOTED EXHIBITION 2017</strong>: Major exhibition that enhances the cultural and tourist prestige of Brussels.</li>
<li><strong>INTERNATIONAL EVENT 2017</strong>: Major event or international show organised in Brussels for the general public.</li>
<li><strong>BEST GASTRONOMIC CONCEPT 2017</strong>: Gastronomic activity, event or concept that enriches Brussels’ tourist offering.</li>
<li><strong>NEW EVENT &amp; TOURIST LOCATION 2017</strong>: Opening or renovation of a location that is vital for Brussels&rsquo;s image as a place for tourism and events.</li>
<li><strong>HOTEL NEWCOMER 2017</strong>: New concept, innovation or renovation in the Brussels hotel world.</li>
<li><strong>PUBLIC INITIATIVE 2017:</strong> Initiative by a public stakeholder or similar (parastatal companies, one of the 19 communes, regional agencies, etc.) that has contributed to the promotion of tourism in Brussels-Capital.</li>
<li>U<strong>NEXPECTED &amp; ORIGINAL CONCEPT 2017</strong>: Innovative, original project contributing to the tourist image of Brussels, with the concept not fitting into any other category.</li>
</ol>
<p>Category only voted on by the jury:• INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS &amp; FAIR 2017: Congress or big international event organised in Brussels for professionals.</p>

<p><span lang="EN-US">Visit Brussels is hoping by this means to spotlight the initiatives which help improve the quality of the welcome and hospitality accorded to visitors and thus contribute to the international reputation of our destination, in 9 different</span> <a href="https://visit.brussels/en/sites/awards/m_article/categories"><strong>categories</strong></a>.</p>

<p>The prizewinners will be announced and will receive their award on 29 March 2018 at the visit.brussels Awards &amp; Networking Night.</p>
<p>You are invited <a href="https://visit.brussels/en/sites/awards/m_article/how">to register</a> achievements, projects, initiatives or original designs you wish to be considered as candidates for the next visit.brussels Awards event by 19 January 2018.</p>
<h4>How does it work?</h4>
<p><span lang="EN-US">To complete their application form, </span><span lang="EN-US">the entrant must choose one of the categories </span><span lang="EN-US">via</span> <strong><a href="https://visitbrussels.wufoo.eu/forms/z1yghdqt1n4r10b/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the online application form</a> </strong><span lang="EN-US">and answer the following questions:</span></p>
<ul>
<li>Presentation of the project (minimum 500 characters / maximum 1,000 characters)</li>
<li>Description of the project</li>
<li>What are the actions taken to attract foreign participants and what are the results?</li>
<li>How is the project innovative or unique?</li>
<li>How does your project fit into a sustainable dynamic (social, ecological and/or economical)?</li>
<li>How is your project accessible to people with reduced mobility? The call for application is open until 19 January 2018.</li>
</ul>
<h4>The different stages</h4>
<p><em><strong>Stage 1: three nominees are selected by the public</strong><br />
</em>Members of the public have one month to vote for their favourite project in each category. At the end of this period, the three projects with the most votes are nominated and go on to the next stage. Except for the International Congress &amp; Fairs  category that is only submitted to the jury vote.</p>
<p><em><strong>Stage 2: the winner is chosen by the panel of judges</strong><br />
</em>The judges pick the winner from the three nominees in each category. The names of the winners will be announced during the visit.brussels Awards &amp; Networking Night on 29 March 2018.Nominees will be judged on five criteria: impact on the international reputation and attraction of Brussels, impact on tourism in Brussels, originality, the sustainability of the project, the efforts made to make the projects more accessible to people with reduced mobility.</p>
