170 guests evacuated in the middle of the night and streets closed due to fire at Sofitel Hotel
There was a fire incident at the Sofitel Hotel, the 5-star hotel located on Avenue de la Toison d’Or.
According to the authorities, the fire started at 3 am so all of the 170 guests had to be evacuated. The fire had apparently started in the kitchen on the first floor, then spread out to the rest of the hotel. However the cause of the fire is yet unknown.
Among the 170 guests, 3 of them were poisoned by the fumes; one was was seriously intoxicated.
With the help of the firefighters, the guests were moved to a hotel close by.
Now the situation is under control. However, the intervention of the firefighters caused the closing of the Avenue of the Golden Fleece to the traffic, between Louise square and the Porte de Namur towards Basilique, reported Bruxelles-Mobilité on Twitter.
