Hiroshima atomic bomb remembrance day at the EU Parliament

On 06 August 1945 at 08.15, the United States of America send an airplane to the Japanese city of Hiroshima and dropped the first atomic bomb, called “Little Boy”. 70,000 people, most of them civilians, were immediately killed and about 70% of the city’s buildings were destroyed.

By the end of the year, injury and radiation brought the total number of deaths to more than 150,000. Over the years, a considerable number of people continued to die from the effects of burns, radiation, and other injuries.

To remember the victims, to show our determination to prevent a similar nuclear strike from ever occurring again, and to show that the EU since its beginning has been a voice for global peace, some peace-loving Brussels-based citizens are organizing a moment of remembrance.

There will be a 30 minute unofficial gathering on the Esplanade Simone Veil in front of the European Parliament. As in the previous years, accompanying children are welcome as well.
