This year, the album “Mezzanine” by Massive Attack is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Arrived at the top of the charts in several countries, it is still considered as a deeply innovative record. On January 31st, the group will perform at Palais 12 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of this iconic opus.
Since the early 90’s, Massive Attack is the absolute representation of musical innovation. The last passages of the group in Belgium marked forever the spirits by their staging (texts in the local language displayed on illuminated panels), the guests of high stature (Horace Andy, Deborah Miller and Martina Topley-Bird), the political themes, catchy rhythms and the apocalyptic atmosphere: all ingredients ensure an unforgettable experience. 3D and Daddy G are masters in the art of awakening the consciousness of the world.
With Massive Attack, quality has always prevailed over quantity. In 1991, their first album “Blue Lines” and its singles “Unfinished Sympathy” and “Safe from Harm” triggered a revolution in popular music, marking the birth of a genre that would (a little) later be called “trip -hop.
His successors “Protection”, “Mezzanine” and “100th Window” each have a unique identity and contain amazing little jewels gathered in 2006 on “Collected”.
“Heligoland” is coming out in 2010.
Earlier this year, Massive Attack announced that it wants to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of “Mezzanine” by transferring the entire album as DNA to keep it for hundreds, even thousands of years. Nobody knows what the future holds, but one thing is certain: the next generations will not have to do without Massive Attack!
