Marguerite Yourcenar (1903-1987), author of novels, autobiographies, essays, is the daughter of a Belgian mother and French father. She spent her vacations in French Flanders, but emigrated to the US. Her work is imbued with cultural-historical knowledge and a humanistic belief in people. In 1980, Yourcenar, winner of the Prix Femina and the Erasmus Prize, was the first woman to be admitted to the Académie Française.
Els Dottermans(1964 – ) studied at the Herman Teirlinck Studio and is one of Flanders’ fetish actresses. She played with Blauwe Maandagcompagnie, directed by Luk Perceval, among others in ‘De Meeuw’ and ‘Ten Oorlog’, then with Toneelhuis, and later with NTGent, often with Jan Decleir and Wim Opbrouck. Recently she excelled in ‘Compassie’, directed by Milo Rau. We also know her a lot from film and television, she received a Golden Calf as the best actress for her television role in Beck.
