A surprising mix of installation, performances, dance and music that revolves around themes that dominate our contemporary ‘post-truth’ society: truth, facts, propaganda, manipulation.

Artistic creation is often regarded as a solitary act, born of individual aspiration. Yet six international artists who have never worked together, have been invited to participate in an experiment: to create a collective work of art.

Mira Calix, Andjeas Ejiksson, Olaf Nicolai, Gluklya (Natalia PershinaYakimanskaya), Asad Raza and Sislej Xhafa first met in January 2018. ‘Circus of Truth’, a surprising mix of installation, performances, dance and music, grew out of their meetings and their dialogue. The evening revolves around themes that dominate our contemporary ‘post-truth’ society: truth, facts, propaganda, manipulation… In a context of uncertainty about the European project this collaboration also raises the question of the potential and limits of our collective horizons.

To enter the circus is to enter another world, like Alice in Wonderland. Rabbits playing ping-pong, the clowns ‘Shit, Truth and Alternative’, the choir of the ‘Swirling Wind’, the Garden of the Propaganda Flowers, a ballet of snowflakes and unicorns. They are all revealed to the visitor along a fantasy path, while at the bar a ‘truth serum’ cocktail and an ‘ice cream of tears’ are served. Feeling adventurous?

The performances can be attended on 29 May. Some performances are continuous and others start at specific times. The exhibition of a sound and space installation can be visited until 2 June.
