Non-emergency hotline 1722 activated after yellow alert was declared in Belgium
On Friday morning, the Interior Federal Public Service has declared the yellow alert in Belgium, in anticipation of the storms and heavy rain announced by the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM). Thus, it has been activated a non-emergency hotline, at the number 1722.
Since this number is intended for non-emergency interventions, it has to be called only “when no life is not potentially in danger, but the intervention of firefighters is necessary”, recalls the Interior SPF in a statement. The hotline has been activated in order to keep the emergency fire and police numbers free for those who need medical or urgent assistance.
So, when a life is in danger, the reference number it has always to be called number 112.
According to the IRM, on Friday morning the weather will be very cloudy with a risk of thunderstorms. The yellow alert has been activated as wind gusts could reach 70 kilometers per hour.
