Brussels Liberation Day Commemoration Activities

From 3 to 6 September 2019 at various locations in Brussels.
In September, Belgium will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation during World War II. Several events will be held in Brussels over 3 days:
Tuesday 3 September: Commemoration
- 9:30 am (Congress Column): victory ceremony, followed by a parade led by the Welsh Guards Fanfare Trumpeters, which ends in front of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts (Rue de la Régence)
- At noon (Esplanade du Cinquantenaire): in the presence of various official authorities, a parade of 75 military vehicles will arrive. This parade follows the same route through Belgium as that of the liberation in 1944. The vehicles will be displayed until Wednesday evening 4 September.
Various activities will be organized in the Museum of the Armed Forces, which will open its doors for free from 9 am to 5 pm.
Wednesday 4 September: Free celebration at the Cinquantenaire Park
From noon to 7 pm: free activities on the Esplanade du Cinquantenaire, which will be filled with army tents and 75 military vehicles. Program:
- swing and jazz bands
- vintage market with professionals providing period hair and makeup or makeovers in a small vintage market (with selfie corner)
- food trucks
Black and white films will be shown in the Museum of the Armed Forces (admission is free again). Furthermore, visitors can pose for a photo aboard a 1942 jeep, or discover an old camp radio.
Friday 6 September: the ‘Bal populaire’
From 6 pm to midnight, free events at the Place de la Chapelle:
- a beauty corner and barber shop offer visitors a makeover, after which they can have a picture taken in a 1944 setting
- giant toys in wood for the children
- Lindy Hop demonstrations and initiations
- 19h30. Concerts (Hop Sh Bam – Big Band quintet followed by Mike Fantom and the Bop-A-Tones)
- 22h30. DJ set
Neighboring merchants will have some treats on sale.
