Sessions Description

1. Trends and taxes in the Belgian housing market: an overview from an investment perspective.
Sabrina Van Roy and Pol Robert Tansens, BNP Paribas Fortis

This workshop will cover two sessions.

-First part: what are the tax consequences of buying or building your immovable property in Belgium? What’s the difference between a family residence or a residence for rent?

During this first session you’ll get an overview of the tax consequences but also advantages of your purchase.

-In the second part we examine why the Belgian housing market is still reasonably performing, and whether we would head for a property crash if the real interest rates were to suddenly rise.

During this second session you’ll get an overview of the current valuation yardsticks and overall return perspectives.

2. Expat cross-border relationships in Belgium
Philipp Bollen, BNP Paribas Fortis

To marry or not to marry?
This question inevitably pops up when you meet the love of your life. Many couples still prefer marriage despite the high divorce rates.
With that in mind, it is important to choose an adjusted marriage contract, as this will have a major impact on the financial arrangements between spouses, not only during the marriage but also at the end of the marriage. Every couple will have different goals, e.g. maximal protection of the surviving spouse, special arrangements for children from a previous relationship, and much more.

The purpose of this workshop is to outline the different models of cohabitation that exist in Belgium, the fiscal/civil consequences and the impact of the EU succession regulation.

3. How to finance your future Belgian residence?
Daniel Hoste, BNP Paribas Fortis

During this workshop, you will get information regarding credit solutions for property purchase: rules, credit types, warranties, costs, tax advantages, etc.

4. How to become a successful innovative startup/scale-up in Belgium?
Moulin Maxime, BNP Paribas Fortis

The most important key elements to become a successful entrepreneur are finding an active partner, a community, a knowledge center, a facilitator and a connector. During this session we will explain how innovation hubs, empowered by BNP Paribas Fortis, can offer you all of these skills. A personal advisor will not only give you pure financial advice but help you also expand your network, find the financing resources and contacts you need to succeed.
Find out how to join our innovation hub community.

5. Retirement Cash-Flow Modelling – How to Calculate the future value of your retirement pension and steps to take to avoid a pension shortfall
Katie-Boag Thompson, The Fry Group Belgium

Based on our popular interactive retirement planning workshops, this presentation will work through the process of calculating the value of a retirement pension income taking into account existing accrued and anticipated future pension benefits, savings and investments. The presentation will also cover ways to maximise your future pension income to ensure a comfortable income in retirement.

6. Everything you always wanted to know about “pensions” but were afraid to ask!  (Including pension transfers & QROPS)
Ed-Read Cutting, The Fry Group Belgium

With pension ages increasing in Western Europe the ‘demographic time bomb’ is becoming a reality.

Whether an employer, employee or self-employed you cannot bury your head in the sand any more.
Belgium remains a friendly environment for pension saving and the landscape is not too hard to navigate.

This educational presentation will give a whistle stop tour of how pensions work in Belgium, including State, occupational, personal and overseas pensions.
