More information about the film
Documentary trilogy Equus: Story of the Horse is the result of an international partnership between film producers in Canada and Kazakhstan. Shot by the best film crew on the highest quality equipment under the management of the renowned director, producer, and anthropologist Niobe Thompson and Kazakhstani co-producer and researcher Nurbol Baimukhanov, and accompanied by stunning symphonic music by the famous American composer Darren Fung, the Equus: Story of the Horse series will remain a comprehensive scientific study of the horse’s nature for years to come.
Filming took place in 2016-2017 in Kazakhstan with the involvement of Kazakhstani historians, consultants, artists, actors, stuntmen, construction workers, decorators, and professionals in the spheres of art and costume design, all of whom were working closely with a Canadian film crew. Filming also involved over 1500 units of cattle.
The aim of the movie is to show the life of early horse cultures that were living on the steppes of Kazakhstan, based on the best scientific data about their way of life and material culture currently available. The international screening of the Equus: Story of the Horse documentary trilogy for the national broadcasting corporations of Canada (CBC), USA (PBS), Germany (ZDF), France (ARTE), Denmark (DR), and Kazakhstan (Qazaqstan) is planned for 2019.
