Film about the tragic love story of hard bop icon/trumpeter Lee Morgan
The very first jazz album was released 100 years ago: The Original Dixieland Jass Band with ‘Livery Stable Blues’. That’s why AB will be paying extra attention to jazz for a year. From contemporary classics to musical troublemakers who are inspired by jazz, to the latest incredibly headstrong jazz generation from local soil.
On a snowy night in February 1972, celebrated jazz musician Lee Morgan was shot dead by his wife Helen during a show at a club in New York. The murder sent shockwaves through the entire jazz community. This documentary by the Swedish filmmaker Kasper Collin is a love letter to two unique personalities and the music that brought them together. A film about love, jazz and America.
Kasper Collin is also the maker of the highly acclaimed documentary ‘My Name Is Albert Ayler’ and no doubt you have already danced to Lee Morgan’s funky classic ‘The Sidewinder’.
