We, Europeans of Brussels, are calling for a more citizen-based Europe!
Let us mobilize to put the citizen back at the heart of European construction!
Faced with a change in the image of Europe and a grim climate, it is important to find alternative ways to communicate with citizens and to reinforce this notion of European citizenship and belonging to Brussels, which represents the capital of a Europe of 450 million citizens.
Cosmopolitan and a city of expats, it is here that this pride of belonging to Brussels, as the capital of Euro-citizenship, has to express itself through major cross-cultural mobilizing events and be an example of European citizenship.
We must relaunch, now more than ever, the European debate and this notion of European citizenship. We need to honor the citizens, the younger generations, and the associations. Communicate and react to the expectations of citizens, make them want to re-discover Europe!
The European citizens are becoming uninterested in Europe, some reject it, many do not understand it.
A revival is needed to strengthen the European democratic framework so that the 450 million Europeans can reclaim their “Europe”, the Europe of solidarity, which “integrates and protects”, and allows them to assert their sovereignty in a world perceived as being more and more complex and anxiety-provoking.
It is on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, on March 25th, 2018 at 2 pm at Place du Luxembourg, that we must actively defend a Europe in which we believe and which makes the sovereign citizen.
