Belgium offers help to the Portuguese authorities

Belgium expressed its compassion to the Portuguese authorities following the death of 63 people in the forest fire that devastated Pedrogão Grande but also offered assistance, explained today the Spokesman for the Prime Minister.

National Mourning for Three Days
This Sunday, the Portuguese government decreed three days of national mourning. “The fire has reached an unprecedented dimension of human tragedy,” said Prime Minister Antonio Costa, who traveled to the scene of the tragedy in Pedrogão Grande, in the region of Leiria.

The forest fire that has devastated since Saturday afternoon the region of the Lusitanian Republic continued in the evening of Sunday on four fronts, one of great violence, according to the authorities.
More than 900 firefighters and 280 vehicles were still working on Sunday night, while a final report this afternoon revealed at least 63 deaths and as many wounded, including five, four firemen and one child, in a serious condition.
