Belgium salutes presidential election in Mali
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders salutes the globally peaceful conduct of the presidential election in Mali, despite a difficult security context in some regions of the country.
Following the announcement of the results by the Constitutional Court on the 20th of August, the Minister congratulates Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta on his re-election as President of the Republic of Mali. The Minister wishes also to salute the democratic engagement of the people of Mali, as well as the participation of all candidates.
The efforts of the Mali authorities to implement the international recommendations under the sign of mutual respect are an encouraging sign for the next elections.
Didier Reynders calls for sustaining the efforts to implement the peace agreement and to pursue an inclusive democratic dialogue where all sensitivities can express themselves responsibly and thereby contribute to strengthening the Malian society.
Mali is still facing numerous challenges. Belgium reiterates its determination to supporting the authorities and the people of Mali in their common efforts towards peace, stability, and development.
