STIB to launch its first electric bus
STIB inaugurates its first fully electric bus. The Stib’s first all-electric bus route will connect the Dansaert and Louise shopping districts starting from June 1st.
It is a medium-sized 22-seater vehicle that can run independently for eight hours, and charges overnight. After a period of tests, a further 6 City buses will be added to the fleet on the future bus line 33, which will serve the city center and will provide the link between the top and bottom of the city via Rue du Lombard and the Sablon.
STIB plans to experiment with line 33 to look futher into all-electric technology. 30 additional vehicles have been ordered – including large buses to work the city’s busier routes – and 90 hybrid buses are also due to be introduced on several routes from next January.
