Unemployment in Brussels at its lowest levels since 2000
Brussels had a total of 90,673 job-seekers in the month of July, down by 2,323 with respect to the previous month, announced Actiris on Thursday. The unemployment rate in Brussels is down for the 45th consecutive month and currently stands at 16.2%, its lowest level since 2000.
The month of July consisted of 10,979 entries on the unemployment system (9,561 re-enrollments and 1,418 new registrations) against 8,847 exits, an increase on a monthly basis in the number of unemployed job-seekers: 2,132 persons (+2,4 %).
At he end of July there were 63,612 job-seekers requesting benefits in the Brussels Region, 3,570 young people in vocational integration courses, and 23,491 other job-seekers registered freely or compulsorily.
Youth unemployment, which has been falling for 62 months in a row, has reached a rate of 20.6%. Brussels has 7,893 young job-seekers, the lowest number since the creation of the Brussels-Capital Region in 1989.
Finally, Actiris registered a total of 17,008 job vacancies in July. For the Brussels Region in particular, the number of job vacancies was 5,715.
