The World Padel Tour arrives to Brussels

Sport lovers and athletes never get bored in Brussels! Many events and competitions are now taking place in the Belgian capital, so there’s little time to get bored!

Next week, between the 18th and the 20th of August, the notorious Place de la Monnaie will host the World Paddel Tour, The Exhibition. The event, besides promoting the sport and giving information on it, will host the first part of the international competition. Eight couples will meet to conquer their position in the Belgian tournament. But what is Padel?

Padel is a racquet sport which is usually played in doubles on an enclosed court a third the size of a tennis court. Scoring is the same as normal tennis and the balls used are similar but with a little less pressure; the court has walls and the balls can be played off them in a similar way as in the game of squash with solid, stringless racquets are used. The height of the ball being served must be at or below the waist level.

The sport is currently most popular in Latin American countries such as Argentina and Mexico as well as in Spain and Andorra, although it is now beginning to spread rapidly across Europe and other continents.

On Friday, at 12:30, Paquito Navarro and Sanyo Gutiérrez, the second most important couple in the international ranking, will play against Jéremy Leroy and Aitor García Bassas. At 14:00 Seba Nerone and Álex Ruiz will play against Víctor Sánchez and  Lucas Bracchi, to gain access to the semi-finals on Saturday. On the third position in the international ranking, there are Mati Díaz y Maxi Sánchez, who will fight Robin Haziza y Roger Arumi at 15:30. The last match on Friday will be between Miguel Lamperti and Juani Mieres and Jérémy Gala y Jorge de Benito at 17:00. On Saturday 19 Place de la Monnaie will host the semifinals, from 14:00 on, and on Sunday 20 there will be the matches for the third and fourth positions at 13:00 and those for the second and first place at 17:00.
