Vox Populi: Christopher Clannachan from Glasgow, United Kingdom

1. What are your expectations/hopes from these elections?

My hopes for these elections are that voter turnout will increase. Firstly, because this allows citizens to participate in the Union from which the former often feels distanced from the latter. Increased participation in democratic process increases democratic legitimacy for the Union, upon which it is often subject to criticism. Secondly, I hope that the electorate will ‘do their homework’ and make sure they are making the right choice with their vote. In light of Brexit, informed voting is more important than ever. My expectations are that voter turnout will increase but I am uncertain to say whether that will be based on an informed/educated stance. I also fully expect that the Spitzenkandidaten process will take place again, which should be welcomed.

2. Do you/people in your member state still have faith in the EU to deliver?

Provided the UK remains a Member State of the Union, I feel that people will expect the EU to deliver for the British people more than ever. Whether that remains the case is yet to be seen.

3. Will you be voting? If so, who for (if you are willing to say)?

I will be voting in the elections but I have yet to make a choice as to who that will be.

4. Tell us some very brief persona/biographical details about yourself?

I am a European Union Law Masters student at the University of Amsterdam from Scotland.
