10th Brussels’ Czech Street Party
Hold this image in your mind for a moment: two persons walking hand in hand, the warmth of a late afternoon brushing their faces. Now look closer, the way they stand side by side, notice how they’re interwoven, their fingers. Ten.
Come and celebrate the 10th edition of the Czech Street Party in Brussels, which will happen this Friday June 16th on Rue Caroly in Ixelles, showcasing regional food specialities as well as wine and beer from different parts of the Czech Republic.
“The Czech Street Party was created in 2007 by the Czech Permanent Representation to the EU and other partners such as Prague House”, said Eva Petráková from the Czech Center in Brussels. “The goal is to promote intercultural dialogue and showcase Czech culture. Over the years nearly all the regions in the Czech Republic have come to share their own ‘best of’ in the form of traditions, cultural heritage and culinary specialities.”
This year the event is organized by the Czech Permanent Representation to the European Union in the cooperation with the City of Prague, the City of Brno, the Czech Centre in Brussels, the Central Bohemian Region, the South Moravian Region, the Pilsen and Pardubice Region, the Vysočina Region, CzechTourism and VIDA! Science center. Moreover, this year’s main sponsor is ČEZ Group, a.s. Other sponsors include: Škoda Auto – Škoda Import Belgium, KBC and Federation of the Food and Drink Industries of the Czech Republic.
Besides offering a variety of food and beverages, the party will host stands with touristic and cultural institutions from the Czech Republic, a great opportunity to find out more about the country and its cultural richness. At CzechTourism visitors can plan a potential holiday, or get detailed information at the stands representing each region or city.
“The Czech Street Party is a one-of-a-kind concept in Brussels but similar events are organized by the Embassies and Czech Centres around the world”, said Miss Petráková. “Other instances are an open-air festival in New York, or Czech contemporary theatre in London. This year we’ve brought new partners to create an even more exciting program. During the event, visitors can test their knowledge on regional specialities and touristic attractions.”
The program includes performances by the young emerging singer Lenny and the music bands Laura a její tygři, and Support Lesbiens.
“With her rather fragile appearance, Lenny shocks many by her coarse voice and British-like songs”, said Miss Petráková. “Laura a její tygři, or literary Laura and her tigers, offer a funky combination of jazz and rock. Finally, Support Lesbiens, a big star of the Czech pop rock scene, will come on stage at 9 pm.”
There will also be activities for children, educational activities for young and old at the VIDA! Science centre stand, competition for prizes (lottery), and a lot more.
