Megavino 2017: Bulgaria Guest of Honor

Megavino is the largest wine fair in the Benelux. It’s the best place to meet a large number of wine lovers, wine producers and to taste some of the best wines in the world. With their own glass, the visitors walk in the salon and discover 400 wine exhibitors presenting thousands of delicious wine brands from more than thirty countries! The 19th edition of Megavino takes place in Brussels Expo from Friday 20 October to Monday 23 October.

Megavino also focuses on the origin of wines and the life of the wine growers. Wine contests, workshops, conferences, tips on how to associate wine with food, wine accessories and other activities are scheduled during the event. The guest of honor of Megavino 2017 is Bulgaria, one of the oldest wine producing countries.

Bessa Valley Winery

  • Region: Thracian Valley regio, built in 2000. Surface: 300 ha. Excellent red wines. Use of international grape varieties.
  • Concept: creating Grand Cru wines following the example of Bordeaux.
  • Name owner: Stephan von Neipperg, excellent wine maker from Saint-Emilion
  • Top wine: Enira

Vinex Slavyantsi Winery

  • Region: Rose Valley, tradition winery from the end of the 19th century, surface 700 ha. International and native grape varieties, mostly white misket.
  • History: Traditional as well as innovative with the help of an Italian wine consultant.
  • Concept: Biggest wine exporter from Bulgarie, first and only Fair Trade winery in Europe.
  • Name owner: family Zhekov.
  • Top wine: Carrefour booth : « LEVA » (6 EUR) and « Emine » at the Bulgarian booth.

Logodaj Winery

  • Region: Strouma Valley wijnregio. Founded in 1994, 75ha. Capacity storage of 2 million liters. Uses the native grape Variety Melnik.
  • History: Traditional as well as innovative with the help of an Italian wine consultant.
  • Owner: Petar Drosanaski
  • Top wine: “Melnik 55”

Edoardo Miroglio Winery

  • Regio: Trharcian Valley. Started in 200 with almost 180 ha vinyards. estart in 2000 met bijna 180 ha wijngaarden. Moderate continental climate with constant fresh air. International as well as native grape varieties. Specialized in Pinot Noir.
  • History: Edoardo Miroglio settled definitely in Bulgaria for the production of textile in Sliven. He fell in love with the country and got the Bulgarian citizenship. A modest man, leading an international textile empire that delivers to all big fashion designers in the world.
  • Name owner: Edoardo Miroglio, an Italian textile tycoon. Coming from Alba, passionate by wine and owner of 2 wineries in Piemonte.

Assenovgrad Winery

  • Region: Thracian Valley, adjacent to Greece.
  • History: Founded at the beginning of the years 2000, 550h. Moderate continental climate with strong dry Mediterranean influences and warm air from the Aegean Sea. Wine from native and international grape varieties. ‘Premium wines’, among the best of the Bulgarian producers. Complex wines.
  • Name owner: Christophe Trylinski
  • Top wine: Mezzek Cabernet sauvignon en Mavrud

Katarzyna Estate Winery

  • Regio: Thracian Valley wijnregio near the Greek border.
  • History: Founded i the early 2000’s, 550 ha. Continental and mediterranean climate conditions with warm winds from the Aegean sea. Red grounds (Chromic luvisol, Eutric cambisol and Rendzina types). International and local wineries.
  • Concept: Premium wines, they belong  to the top wine producers. Structured and complex wines, always effective.
  • Name owner: Christophe Trylinski
  • Top wine: Mezzek Cabernet sauvignon and Mavrud.
