Alan Hollinghurst made literary history with The Swimming-Pool Library (1988). This “sex drenched debut” was once described as the best English novel ever on the subject of homosexuality. In the past 30 years Hollinghurst has written a series of novels establishing his reputation as one of the leading English writers. In 2004 he was awarded the Man Booker Prize for The Line of Beauty (2004), a novel set in Thatcher’s Britain.
Hollinghurst is a guest at BOZAR on the occasion of the publication of his long awaited new novel The Sparsholt Affair. The book describes the fortunes of different generations of friends, from the sombre war years in Oxford to the contemporary London gay scene, sketching in the process a picture of the major social and sexual (r)evolutions in Great Britain in the 20th century.
Journalist Catherine Vuylsteke will have a conversation with the author.
