Brussels winter sales 2018

In Belgium, a trader can only sell products under the name ‘sales’ (‘solden’ in Dutch, ‘soldes’ in French) twice a year. Both periods of sales are determined by law. The first period begins on Wednesday 3 January and ends on 31 January 2018.

Those sales are the seasonal renewal of the range of the trader. This is done through an accelerated selling at lower product prices.

Waiting period before sales

Before the start of the sales there is a waiting period: from 3 December to 2 January. During this waiting period, it is legally prohibited by law to have sales in the clothing, footwear and leather sector.

The summer sales take place from 1 to 31 July. If 3 January or 1 July fall on a Sunday, the bargains may start the day before.
