Citizen participation platform: a way to report water leaks in public areas
A participatory platform launched by a Brussels resident last Friday makes it possible to map construction sites that directly discharge groundwater into sewers. In general, these non-drinking waters are often quite clean.
“It’s wasteful and totally irresponsible at the moment,” said Yoeri Bellemans, initiator of the project, to Bruzz magazine.
More than 23 million liters of water are wasted in the Brussels Region every day.
Yoeri Bellemans plans to contact the contractors in order to place a 1 m3 tank near the site. These waters can feed the gardens of individuals and reduce the waste of water in times of drought.
No contractors have yet been contacted, “although some seem to be open,” said Yoeri Bellemans.
