Construction works in pedestrian zone of Brussels’ downtown to begin on August 5
While construction works on Place De Brouckère and a good part of Boulevard Anspach are now completed, works on the rest of the pedestrian area in the centre of Brussels are not yet finished.
Beliris, the federal fund for major construction projects in Brussels, has recently announced that a new phase of construction works on the rest of this pedestrian area will begin on August 5.
The rue Orts and rue du Marché aux Poulets will be affected by these works. On rue Orts, located in front of the Stock Exchange, work will start on the Marriott Hotel side before the work continues on the Beursschouwburg side. A special route for emergency response vehicles will always be available, as will spaces for pedestrians.
Most of the project is scheduled to be completed by the autumn, says Beliris. Some sections of the project will likely have to be completed in 2020, however: these include the renovation of Place Fontainas, Place de la Bourse and the redevelopment of Rue des Pierres, near Ancienne Belgique, and Rue des Teinturiers.
