Fraud: millions of Euros misreported by nurses visiting homes
ONEM inspectors discovered last year more than 2.7 million Euros of fraud committed by nurses who visited patients at their homes. (The ONEM is the Belgian National Employment Office).
That’s nearly a million more than in 2016, and it represents more than half of the frauds found in the health care sector, reported the newspaper Mediahuis.
The issue stemmed from the fact that visiting nurses reported care that was not been delivered or reported more hours than actually delivered.
For Member of Parliament, Nathalie Muylle(CD&V) who received the figures, people who misreported these figures ought to be punished in a more severe way. She regrets that the fines only reach, “a maximum of 200% of the invoice amount.”
