Manneken-Pis: Venezuela national holiday
July 5 will see Manneken-Pis wear the traditional folk garments of Venezuela to celebrate their national day. From 09:00 to 18:00, the symbol of Brussels folklore will begin the celebration of Cinco de Julio – Venezuela’s independence day.
The Venezuelan Declaration of Independence on the 5 July 1811 was when the country officially decided to separate from the Spanish Crown and establish a new nation – based on the premises of equality of individuals, the abolition of censorship and dedication to freedom of expression. These principles were enshrined as a constitutional principle and were radically opposed to the practices that had existed during the three hundred years of Spanish colonisation. This constitution made Venezuela the first independent nation in South America.
A greeting for this occasion will occur at 11:30 on the day of celebrations
