Number of cyclists in Brussels nearly doubled in five years

According to the results of the Observatoire du Vélo in the Brussels-Capital Region announced by the RTBF, the number of cyclists in Brussels increased by almost 16% in 2018 compared to 2017.

The number of cyclists has almost doubled in the Brussels Region in five years.

Counts were conducted in 26 locations during the months of January, May, September, and November of last year. Nearly 35,000 cyclists were counted each day. There were 16,000 in 2013.

Brussels Mobility Minister Pascal Smet’s office (SP.A) indicates that there are more cyclists on Rue de la Loi: « More than 1000 per hour in the morning in September. In the classification, at the same period, then came Merode (more than 1000) in Etterbeek, the Porte de Flandre in Brussels, the Louise-Bailli junction in Ixelles or the Germoir junction in Ixelles. »
