A man tried to immolate himself in front of the EU’s Berlaymont building

A man tried to immolate himself late Wednesday morning in front of the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels before being surrounded by police officers, AFP journalists reported.

According to a police source, he is a Croat who “wanted to draw the attention of the French president” Emmanuel Macron and his family problems.

No summit of European leaders is yet taking place in Brussels. The next one is scheduled for October 17th. On the main square in front of the Berlaymont building, headquarters of the EU, the man seized a can of gasoline, uttered a cry, before being quickly sprinkled with water by security officers.

He was restrained and handcuffed by police officers, according to images shot by AFP. He was then taken by ambulance to the hospital, the police source said.
